Hey John, firstly congratulations are in order for an impressive win on the weekend, it was an extremely close fight and could have gone either way, that just shows how class an opponent you fought in Peter Irving.
Thanks very much!
Saturday was your 1 year anniversary to winning the Welterweight Title, you’re the second longest serving Title holder at Cage Rage UK now, with Jimi Manuwa being number 1. How does this feel?
I'm very proud of myself, it’s a huge achievement that takes a lot of hard work and preparation not just from myself but my whole team who put them self out to help get behind me for ALL my fights, I would also like to mention I am the longest active champion at Cage Rage UK.
Peter Irving being a BJJ Black belt, was you surprised at his Muay Thai skills and stand up abilities?
I wasn’t surprised one bit, I know his got a great stand up skills and great ground work, neither of us wanted to go to ground, both looked to show off our boxing abilities, it was a great fight, Irving is a warrior and me defeating him just showed how good my game is.
You have now clearly dominated the Welterweight division, have you considered going back up to Middleweight?
I have been there and done that, fought at MW a lot already, fighting at Welterweight is my comfort zone, I love this division and I am staying put.
Who is next on the “The Ones” Hit List?
I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO DAVE PUTS IN FRONT OF ME!
LIVE on screen at his own event, Dave urged UFC President Dana White to come and sign you up. This is a first time for any promoter on any organization to ask to sign a fighter of theirs, this must have shown how much respect he has for you.
Dave O’Donnell is the man, he isn’t Just in UK MMA for himself or for Cage Rage UK he really knows how to look after his fighters, who else in this sport would want their own fighters to grow and go on to bigger shows? Dave is a genuine guy who puts on genuine shows, best in the UK.
Finally John, its been great talking to you, go ahead and give your shout outs.
Thank you, I would like to star by thanking all my boys from Pro-Am fight centre, Tsunami Gym & of course the boys from Gypsy Jit Su, haha. My brother Tommy Maguire & Jack Mason who may I add, are fighting next month, Robbie the Flame my sponsors, British fighter clothing, QNT UK, all friends, family and followers for your continued support, Peter Irving for bringing his best and making the fight a war and Dave O’Donnell and everyone at Cage Rage UK HQ for making the events possible. Much Love

There’s only a few days left before the latest action packed card from Cage Rage UK. The anticipation has reached an unprecedented level and, on September 17th, great champions will face their toughest tests to date.
Welterweight champion John Maguire stands at the peak of the division and has soundly defeated any challengers who have stood in his way.
Peter Irving, however, will not stand on ceremony and comes into the biggest fight of his life knowing that a victory would be the greatest possible statement to the watching world.
Heavyweights Darren Towler and Ben Smith both possess phenomenal strength and skills but there can only be one champion.
The vacant title is on the line and the foundations will rumble when Big Ben and the Powerhouse lock horns for the heavyweight belt.
Moving to the featherweights and new champion Nathan Beer is one of the most ferocious and dominant prospects around.
The Welshman has showcased his exceptional skills on many occasions but, against Corey Tait, he’ll be facing one of the most innovative strikers in the sport.
These three tremendous bouts top a stacked card that will also see TUF veteran Ross “The Gladiator” Pointon bring the noise against Jamaine “Mr Pain” Facey.
Cage Rage UK 23 is sure to raise the stakes once again so, whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss what will surely be one of the hardest hitting events of the year.

We caught up with Welterweight icon; Jamaine Facey who has is signed to fight Cage Rage and TUF veteran, Ross Pointon at Cage Rage UK 23 – September 17th.
Hi Jamaine, you are coming off a 2 fight losing streak, how has this set your mind and training leading up to your bout with Pointon this September?
Losing my last 2 fights has hurt and has gave me so much inspiration to want to win more and has spurred me on to go all the way to take control of this fight and get the most important thing which is the big “W”.
We saw you at Cage Rage UK 21, what did you think of Ross Pointon’s performance against Amasinger?
Worst ever, I have never seen Pointon in a boring fight until then, I guess the long layoff has give him a lot of ring rust, I was not impressed one bit, if he comes to the cage against me like that his going to lose yet again.
Ross Pointon is a dangerous striker, is your game plan to take Pointon down or you happy to stand with him?
MMA is Mixed Martial Arts which means we must train in ALL areas, I hate the “Lay and Prey” Fighters, I am more than happy to fight where ever the fight goes so yeah I’m happy to stand with him, will he be happy to stand with me?
Have you done anything special in preparation?
Nothing special, just training harder than normal, cardio work has gone through the roof, I am ready to go 5 rounds, plan to finish in the 1st round.
You have been training with good friend & Light-Heavyweight Champion, Jimi Manuwa at his new gym, Lions Pride MMA, what techniques have you been working on?
Keeping my hands up ha-ha it was a lazy day and I picked the wrong day, got a lot of punches to the head, Jimi is a great athlete and pleasure to train with.
You love winning in style so what are you predicting for your fight?
Never predicted normally but predict I will win this via GnP in round 1
Win or lose who would you like to fight next?
I don’t like to call people out and I don’t want to look beyond Ross Pointon.
Can you tell us a little bit about your “Hands up, Guns down” Campaign and what you are trying to achieve?
I am trying to raise £5,000 to kick start my charity/organization; “Hands up, Guns down”. My fight purse and cash sponsors will be added to the organization to try kick start the campaign.
I am trying to help get not just adults but kids into martial arts, male and female, I wan't to be a part of stopping/lowering knife crime, people need discipline and goals, without these people have nothing to work for and what with the 2012 Olympics coming to London I believe this will be good for youths to go from a nobody to a somebody.
Okay thanks for speaking with us and finally who would you like to thank?
I would like to thank the main man behind UK MMA, Dave O’Donnell, without him UK MMA wouldn’t be where it is today, all my Bandogs that help me prepare for each and every fight, my family, friends and most importantly the fans and followers that give their continued support for my fights and my “Hands Up, Guns Down” movement, if anyone would like to sponsor or donate to the organization please mail me Jamaine.Facey@sky.com “OUUUSSS”
After a simple, innocent question was asked, an infatuation was started. It's a question we've considered for a long time and now its your chance to do just the same. With the latest news, reviews and opinions you can now ask yourself; What Would Bas Rutten Do?
If you have a query, a problem, a suggestion or merely want to tell us how much you love Bas too, then please drop us a line at
As much as it pains us, we are in no way affiliated with Bas Rutten. We've mentioned him on twitter once or twice but he doesn't know us and we don't know him. Well, we know a lot about him, but not on a personal level. Please don't confuse this issue or take what we say out of context. We just love Bas, MMA and all the shenanigans that go along with it.
