Today, Golden Glory finally issued a statement regarding the mass dismissal of their fighters from the Zuffa party.
The release of such fighters as Alistair Overeem and Marloes Coenen came as a surprise to many however Dana broke it down for us saying this;
"This is actually a pretty simple explanation. If you look back throughout history, we haven't had any Golden Glory guys fight with us since Semmy Schilt, right? And the reason is we have very different business practices. It's tough to do business with them. The bottom line is the way they do business is, you have to pay them, not the fighters. We don't work that way. It's not the way we do business. It's not how it works in the United States with the athletic commissions.
You don't pay the managers and the managers pay the fighters. You pay the fighters and the fighters pay the managers. A simple enough business decison on the face of it, but the release from Golden Glory points at a misunderstanding rather than a beligerance to not change their business practices. Hit the jump and see for yourself.TweetTagged :
Unless you are now signed to a main event slot, you better be gettin' yo' ass in shape, son. You now have five rounds to look forward to. Every main-event feature the UFC puts on will be subject to this change. Headlining a Spike TV card and think you'll get out of it as it's 'only Spike TV event'? Wrong, you're going five rounds too.
The ever pragmatic Dana White made the announcement today during a press conference for UFC131 and was more than happy to remind us he has been pushing for this for a long time. It was suppose to come in effect for this weekend but it never quite materialised. I think Carwin should be extra thankful for that.
It's the first time in the sports all be it, relatively young history that non-title bouts will be contested over 25 minutes. Notably, Phil Davis Vs Rashad Evans will also remain a three round affair as they had already been signed to a contract.
It's an interesting move, a move which has the potential to create some very different outcomes in the so called 'title-eliminator' bouts we often see. Even match-ups like Hamill Vs Bisping and Machida Vs Rampage could have and probably should have seen a fourth and fifth round. Now we may just get to see just who the better overall fighter is. Though, we do face the distinct possibility of being subjected to more snooze-fests. With a bit of luck Dana will continue to believe Rashad Vs Rampage II is a bad idea and he will make a new promise to never put Fitch in a main event.
I'm not completely sold on the idea yet. My real disappointment with it is that lengthy main events could leave little chance of extra preliminary fights making it onto the main broadcast. That exposure is valuable and it can bring far more attention to a lesser known fighter rather than being locked away in the UFC vault or on a Russian YouTube alternative. With any luck though, the extra training and desire to not have to go a full five rounds will yield us more great finishes.TweetTagged :
The day is almost upon us and we are pretty excited.
Stepping in for an injured Rashad Evans, Jon Jones will enter the octagon on a months notice to face current champion and ex PRIDE face-smasher Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua.
This is one hell of a task and we have to give credit to Jon Jones for taking the fight so soon. Sure, he isn't short of cockyness or confidence but still, Shogun is possibly the most dangerous fighter a light-heavyweight could choose.
Catch us after the jump where we breakdown the comments of Jon Jones, the reaction of Shogun and give a run-down of the UFC Press Conference from Wednesday.TweetTagged :
On a media conference call for January 22nd's Fight for the Troops, Dana White announced that former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar (5-2-0) will return to action by coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. Alongside Lesnar will be current Number 1 contender Junior Dos Santos (13-1-0), who puts his contender title on the line at the end of the season when he squares off against Brock.
After a simple, innocent question was asked, an infatuation was started. It's a question we've considered for a long time and now its your chance to do just the same. With the latest news, reviews and opinions you can now ask yourself; What Would Bas Rutten Do?
If you have a query, a problem, a suggestion or merely want to tell us how much you love Bas too, then please drop us a line at
As much as it pains us, we are in no way affiliated with Bas Rutten. We've mentioned him on twitter once or twice but he doesn't know us and we don't know him. Well, we know a lot about him, but not on a personal level. Please don't confuse this issue or take what we say out of context. We just love Bas, MMA and all the shenanigans that go along with it.
